Webflow vs WordPress: which is better for your business in 2025?

Webflow or WordPress? It’s one of the most common questions I get from entrepreneurs looking to have a new website built. Both platforms have their strengths — but they’re not right for everyone.

What is Webflow?

Webflow is a visual web design and development platform that lets designers and developers build websites without writing CSS manually. The result is clean, fast code with excellent performance scores — and a website that looks exactly as intended.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is the most widely used CMS in the world. Flexible, feature-rich and backed by thousands of plugins. But also: susceptible to security issues, dependent on plugins, and often slower than desirable.

When should you choose Webflow?

Webflow is the right choice if you:

• Want a fast, well-performing website (Core Web Vitals 90+)
• Need a custom design without template limitations
• Want low maintenance without constantly updating plugins
• Are investing in SEO and want clean, semantic code
• Prefer visual control over every design detail

When should you choose WordPress?

WordPress makes sense when:

• You need complex e-commerce functionality (WooCommerce)
• Your team is already familiar with WordPress and doesn’t want to switch
• You need very specific plugins that only exist for WordPress
• The budget is very tight and a free theme is the only option

Performance: the numbers

A typical WordPress site with Elementor and 15 plugins often scores 20–50 in Google PageSpeed Insights.

A well-built Webflow or Astro website scores 90–100 as standard.

Security

WordPress runs on PHP and is the #1 target for automated hack attempts. If you don’t update your plugins and theme, you’re vulnerable. Webflow has no server-side code, making it virtually immune to most attacks.

My recommendation

For most small and medium-sized businesses looking for a professional website that is fast, safe and low-maintenance: Webflow is the better choice in 2025.

For complex webshops or companies that already have an extensive WordPress setup: a migration is not always worth it. In that case, optimising your existing site makes more sense.
