Multilingual websites.
NL + EN done right.
Reaching international customers starts with the right URL structure. I build multilingual websites where each language version is independently indexed by Google — with correct hreflang, separate sitemaps and proper canonical tags.
International reach, done technically right
Separate URLs per language
Dutch at / and English at /en/. Each language version is independently crawlable and indexable — both accumulate separate SEO authority.
Correct hreflang
Search engines know exactly which language version to show to which visitor. No duplicate content issues, no cannibalisation between languages.
One CMS, two languages
Manage all content from one place. No duplicated systems or confusing setups. Add a language later without restructuring the entire site.
What a proper multilingual setup includes
International SEO requires more than just a translation. Here's what I include:
Prices excl. VAT. Translation is not included unless specified.
How a multilingual project works
Language & URL strategy
I map out the URL structure and language architecture before we start. Subdirectories (/en/) versus subdomains (en.domain.com) — I recommend the best approach for your situation.
Content & CMS setup
I set up the CMS with per-language fields so you (or your translator) can manage all content from one place. No duplicated back-ends, no confusion.
Build with full SEO setup
Both language versions are built simultaneously with correct hreflang, canonical tags and language-specific sitemaps. No SEO mistakes to fix later.
Test & launch
I test the language switcher, hreflang implementation (using Google's testing tools), cross-device rendering and page speed for both language versions before launch.
Frequently asked questions
What is hreflang and why does it matter?
Hreflang is an HTML attribute that tells Google which language version of a page to show in which country. Without it, Google may show the wrong language to the wrong user, reducing conversions and wasting SEO effort.
Can I add English to my existing website?
Yes. I can add an English version to most existing websites — including setting up the URL structure, CMS fields, hreflang and translated content. I assess what's involved upfront.
Do you provide translation services?
Not natively. I can provide a translated version of your Dutch content using AI-assisted translation, which you then review and refine. For certified translation, I work with specialist partners.
Which platform do you build multilingual sites on?
Primarily Webflow (which has built-in multilingual support via Localization) and Astro (where I set up the routing and CMS manually). Both produce clean, SEO-correct multilingual sites.
Does a multilingual website cost more to maintain?
Yes — proportionally. Any content update needs to happen in both language versions. I can set up the CMS to make this as efficient as possible, and I offer multilingual maintenance retainers.
